Djerba in half a day: souks, pottery and the Ghriba synagogue – which island tour?
Updated October 18, 2026 · 6 min read
In short. For most people the best choice is “Djerba Express: The Highlights of the Island in a Half-Day”: four hours, €19.36 per person, rated 4.9 from 4,737 reviews, by far the most reviewed activity in Djerba: see dates and prices for the half-day island tour. If you prefer a small group in a minibus, take “Best of Djerba: The Island’s Cultural Gems and Traditions (Small Group)”, €19.25: see the small-group tour. If you want to get your hands dirty, there is a version with a pottery session, and it costs less than €19 as well.
What a half-day tour covers
The island is small enough that four hours are enough to see its three famous things: the markets of Houmt Souk, the pottery village of Guellala, and the El Ghriba synagogue. The descriptions do not agree on which of the three each tour includes, so read them before you book. In the table below, only what a description names is listed; if a stop is not there, do not assume it.
Eight tours side by side
| Tour | Duration | From | Rating | What the description names |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Djerba Express: The Highlights of the Island | 4 hours | €19.36 | 4.9 · 4,737 reviews | lively souks, Ghriba Synagogue, beaches |
| Best of Djerba: Cultural Gems and Traditions (Small Group) | 4 hours | €19.25 | 4.8 · 1,032 reviews | small group, minibus, culture, crafts, heritage |
| Djerba Island: 4-Hour Tour of the Island’s Best Sights | 4 hours | €19 | 4.8 · 102 reviews | souks, Ghriba Synagogue, beaches |
| Djerba: El Ghriba Synagogue Tour with Hands-On Pottery | 4 hours | €18.70 | 4.6 · 32 reviews | pottery session in Guellala, El Ghriba, Djerbahood street art |
| Sunset Tour of Djerba Island with Brik Food Tasting | 5 hours | €18.80 | 4.3 · 221 reviews | Houmt Souk, brik tasting, Djerbahood, Guellala, sunset at Sidi Yati |
| Guided Scooter Tour: Djerbahood & Houmt Souk | 3.5 hours | €16 | 4.7 · 40 reviews | by scooter, Djerbahood, Houmt Souk |
| Half-Day Djerba Tour with Free Drink | 4 hours | €19 | 4.5 · 19 reviews | half-day island tour, drink included |
| Djerba Must-See: Small-Group Half-Day Island Tour | 5 hours | €19 | 4.3 · 13 reviews | small group, local guide |
All eight cost between €16 and €19.36. At that price the choice is not about money, but about what you want to see and with how many people. Note that two entries, the Express tour and the four-hour tour, carry the same description in the listing; they may be the same programme sold by two operators, and the ratings of the two differ (4.9 and 4.8), so do not assume the 4,737 reviews of the first apply to the second.
The three stops
Houmt Souk. The island’s main town, with a market area of whitewashed alleys. The souks sell ceramics, textiles, leather goods, jewellery and metalwork.
Guellala. The pottery village in the south, where around 450 potters are said to work, according to a travel guide we consulted. The hands-on pottery tour, the sunset tour and the half-day tour with a free drink name it; the Express description does not.
El Ghriba. One of the most famous synagogues in North Africa and the main reason many people take the tour. Two practical points. Dress modestly: shoulders and knees covered, and head coverings are available at the entrance, according to travel guides. And expect security: the annual pilgrimage in spring, which in 2026 was announced for 30 April to 6 May, draws heavy security, and during pilgrimage periods access can be restricted. Saturday is the Sabbath, so ask the operator on the booking page whether the visit is possible on the day you want to go.
Who it isn’t for
If you want unhurried time in the markets, a guided half day is the wrong shape: the guide’s schedule sets the pace. If you have small children, none of the descriptions state a minimum age, so check the booking page. If you have a whole day, the island tours category also lists longer tours.
Our recommendation
Take “Djerba Express: The Highlights of the Island in a Half-Day”. With 4.9 stars from 4,737 reviews it is the most reviewed offer on the whole island, and at €19.36 it is the dearest of the eight, though only by 11 cents. Choose the small-group tour instead if the size of the group matters to you more than the best rating.

If you want to make something with your hands, the pottery tour is the only one in the table that says so.
