What the second day buys
The Sahara proper starts a long way from the island. One operator listing in our jeep guide puts the drive to Ksar Ghilane at about three hours each way. A day trip spends much of its ten hours on the road and can bring you back late in the evening. An overnight trip breaks the drive in two and lets you see the desert at the end of the day and at the start of the next, which is the only reason to pay for it.
What you get for the extra day depends on the listing. The listing with 524 reviews names Tataouine and its ksour, Ksar Ghilane with its natural hot water spring, and Matmata with its underground houses, then a night under the stars. Others name a sunset, a swim in the oasis, a Berber evening, a tent, sunrise and breakfast.

Two trips carry nearly all the reviews, 524 and 603, and they differ by €35 on price. Everything below €100 is one of those two. Above that the evidence thins out fast: the other trips have between none and 80 reviews, so the numbers there say little.
Where the listings disagree
The lowest price is the one to read twice. €41.65 is a starting price for a trip that covers two days and a night in a camp. A one-day jeep trip on the same roads costs about €59. We do not know what the two-day price leaves out, so check what it includes (meals, drinks, bedding, the camp) before you read it as a bargain.
The durations do not agree with the titles either. The sunset and tent trip at €76.88 is listed as “1 to 2 days”, and the €115.28 trip with a night in a tent is listed as “1 day”. Ask the operator on the booking page when you leave and when you are back.
The nights are different too: a tent in a camp, a cave dwelling, a camp in Douz, a bivouac. None of the descriptions we read says what the bed, the washing facilities or the toilets are like, so ask.
Who it is not for
If a night in a tent is not for you, take a day trip: the nights are the main point of the price. The long drives are hard for anyone who gets carsick, and for small children; the listings do not state a minimum age, so look at the booking page. The descriptions do not tell you how cold the night is, so ask the operator what to bring.
