Djerba with kids: which trips work for families, and which are too long?
Updated October 18, 2026 · 6 min read
In short. For most families the best first trip is “Djerba Crocodile Park & Museum Tour with Hotel Pickup”: 2.5 hours, €24 per person, rated 4.9 from 1,119 reviews, and described as a mix of culture and adventure “for all ages”: see dates and prices for the crocodile park tour. If your children want a boat, take the pirate ship to Flamingo Island: “Djerba: Full Day Flamingo Island” is the one that describes itself as “for the whole family”, €18 per person: see the pirate ship day. If your children are very small, read the section on who it is not for before you book anything long.
What the listings say about children
Very little. Of the many trips on offer on Djerba, only a handful mention children or families at all, and none of those we read states a minimum age. That is the first thing to know: when an operator writes “perfect for families”, it is a sales line, not a rule you can rely on. For any trip below, check the booking page for the age limit and ask the operator before you pay if you travel with a baby or a toddler.
Six trips that mention families
| Trip | Duration | From | Rating | What the description says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Crocodile Park & Museum Tour with Hotel Pickup | 2.5 hours | €24 | 4.9 · 1,119 reviews | museum, discovery park, crocodiles, “all ages”, hotel pickup |
| Full Day Flamingo Island | 6 hours | €18 | 4.1 · 191 reviews | pirate ship “for the whole family”, sandy beaches, swimming, lunch |
| Pirate Ship tour to the Flamingo island | 6 hours | €20 | 4.6 · 187 reviews | “a couple or a family”, 9 am to 2:30 pm, a beach and a Tunisian meal |
| Half-Day Djerba Tour with Free Drink | 4 hours | €19 | 4.5 · 19 reviews | Guellala pottery, synagogue, Djerbahood, Houmt Souk; “perfect for families”, licensed guide |
| 30-Minute Express Camel Ride – Perfect for Children | 30 minutes | €15 | 4.8 · 15 reviews | dromedary ride on the beach, “perfect for children and families”, hotel pickup |
| Djerba in Electric Mode: 3 Wheels | 4 hours | €12 | 4.2 · 8 reviews | electric three-wheeler through the countryside, “a comfortable and stable vehicle” |
The two pirate ship trips are close on price and length. The €20 one has the better rating, 4.6 against 4.1, with about the same number of reviews. The most reviewed pirate trip on the island is a different listing, with 3,209 reviews and seven hours; we cover it in our guide to the Flamingo Island pirate boat.
The crocodile park first
For a first family trip we would start with the crocodile park. It is short, and 2.5 hours is a length that most children can manage in the heat, though none of the listings says so. It also has by far the most reviews of the six. We look at it in detail in the crocodile park guide, including the question whether older children get bored by it.
The beach, which costs nothing
Djerba is a beach island, and one travel guide describes the east coast beaches from Sidi Mahrez towards Aghir as shallow and calm. We have not checked that ourselves, so treat it as a lead and not a fact. Sea temperature figures put the water at about 24 °C in June and 27 to 28 °C from July to September, which is why June to November is the swimming season.
Who it is not for
The Sahara days are not for small children. The ten-hour jeep trip spends about three hours each way on the road, according to one operator, and the overnight trips are longer still; the listings state no minimum age. Read our guides to the jeep day to Ksar Ghilane and Matmata and the Tataouine and Chenini day trip before you decide.
The same goes for the quad, buggy and horse tours to the lagoon. Most listings do not state a minimum age, so the quad, horse and camel guide tells you which ones to ask about. And the seven-hour pirate trip is long for a toddler, whatever the title says: if your child sleeps in the afternoon, the 2.5-hour crocodile park or the 30-minute camel ride fits better.
Our recommendation
Start with “Djerba Crocodile Park & Museum Tour with Hotel Pickup”. It has the highest rating of the six, 4.9, and the most reviews, 1,119, at €24. Add the pirate ship day for children who are old enough to sit on a boat for six hours, and a half day on the beach for everyone else.
